Parallel Text Sample Sentences

All our frequency dictionaries come with German to English example sentences. These sentences show you German words used in context. They provide you with a lot of reading practice. You will learn new words passively, from context. The sentences help you get used to the grammar and the flow of the language, by reading.

They also mimic natural language learning.  You learn a language in chunks. Usually in short sentences, or parts thereof.  Bonus points if you read your dictionary out loud.

Because the sentence's English translation is also given, the frequency dictionary doubles as a parallel text book. Depending on which book, you get the equivalent of reading a 70-90 page bilingual novel. That is quite a lot of reading practice, especially if you finish all four frequency dictionaries.

Bilingual Books

A bilingual book, also called parallel text book, or interlinear book, is a book that provides two translations of the same story, side to side. In this case, we provide you with German and English texts.

Reading is an excellent exercise when it comes to language learning.

Reading forces you to learn new vocabulary. You get the best results when you read just above your level.

The problem is that reading at that level is quite difficult, as there is not much material to practice with.

  • If it is too easy, it will be boring, and you won't learn much.
  • If it is too difficult, you will lose motivation, and not learn much.

Bilingual books eliminate these two pitfalls.

You don't need to spend time and energy having to look up terms manually on your phone, computer, or dictionary.

You can read above your actual reading level, thanks to the easy look-up. You won't lose motivation here, but you'll be enticed to read on.
