Thematic learning is used in most traditional language learning methods. This was to allow you to manage yourself in many situations. Although the idea sounds great in theory, it's not practical in practice.

It is not necessary to learn all the vocabulary for each theme. AI can analyze any language. The AI will tell us which words are most commonly used and therefore valuable to know. The vocabulary will become less and less useful as you move down the list. At around 10.000 words, the diminishing returns are so severe that you may want to switch to thematic learning.

If you are going to be spending a lot time in a particular field, it is advisable to learn by topic. This applies to you if you have to know specific vocabulary at the airport, hairdresser, bakery, etc. or in a professional setting. You might need to be familiar with specific vocabulary related to business or medical terms.

However, thematic learning should not serve as a way to start lessons. In my day to day life, I don't frequent airports. Even if I am there, the people speak English.

I would rather spend 10 hours learning common words and laser-focus my attention on words I will actually use than to try and learn random vocabulary and hope I'll use some of it one day.

It is extremely demotivating to not make enough progress. This is why most people quit learning a language.
